Axarquia
Axarquia - an ancient area in southern Spain where the beaches stay open all year and orange trees line the streets.
Known for THE BEST CLIMATE IN EUROPE, Axarquia has sub-tropical temperatures similar to southern California. Lapped by the Mediterranean waters of the Costa del Sol and sheltered by magnificent mountain ranges, Axarquia lies within the Malaga Province of Andalucia.
Salares
Salares lies 58 kilometres from Malaga and 37 kilometres from the coast at Torre del Mar, at an altitude of 579 metres. It is situated within the area of Axarquia, on the scenic Route of Mudejar Architecture, and has a population of 400.
Salares is of Roman origin when it was known as Salaria Bastitanorum. Later, as with other villages in the area, it had a history of Moorish occupation, Christian reconquest and Moorish uprisings.
Salares is a picturesque white village with steep, winding streets that are closed to traffic and a small olive factory. The parish church of Santa Ana is built in Mudejar style.
Lecrin Valley
In the Lecrin Valley there is opportunity for walking, cycling, horse riding, fishing and swimming.
Malaga Airport is the closest at present, a scenic two hour drive from the house. |
